Holistic SUMMER training ‘25

Program Structure:

  • Duration: 10-week program

  • Location: Nutley

  • Session Length: 100 minutes

    • Activation/Speed, Agility, Quickness (SAQ): 20 minutes

    • Topical Training: 45 minutes

    • Gameplay: 25 minutes (10 minutes coached, 15 minutes player-led)

Weekly Breakdown:

Week 1: Player Assessment (10 minutes) before starting week.

  • Establish individual skill levels and set personal goals. * Must be scheduled with Des ideally before week of June 23rd, not a group training week *

Weeks 2-5: Ball Mastery, Attacking, and 1v1 Skills

  • Week 2: BALL! BALL! BALL!

    • Focus on effective dribbling with the ball on foot and eyes on the space.

  • Week 3: Body Manipulation

    • Learn to use your body to control and manipulate the ball.

  • Week 4: Beating Pressure

    • Strategies for overcoming defenders through skillful maneuvers.

Weeks 6-8: Defending Skills

  • Week 6: Pressing and Space Management

    • Techniques to make the field smaller; delay and determine plays.

  • Week 7: Decision-Making as a Defender

    • Understanding primary and secondary defender roles.

  • Week 8: Game Awareness

    • Recognizing when to transition into defensive positions.

Weeks 9-11: Improving Decision Making, Awareness, Movement, and Communication Skills

  • Week 9: Understanding Human Moments

    • Developing spatial and social awareness within the game.

  • Weeks 10-11: Using Awareness for Decision Making

    • Leverage awareness to enhance on-field decisions and strategic gameplay to improve movement and communication.

Additional Resources:
Participants will receive supplementary training resources weekly to reinforce their skills and foster continuous development between sessions. This holistic approach not only focuses on technical skills but also promotes essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and resilience.
